The Domestic Animal Management Plan (DAMP) helps ensure that pets, people, and the environment can live safely and harmoniously together by promoting responsible pet ownership and effective animal management. The Plan seeks to balance the needs of pet owners and non-pet owners and addresses seven core priorities, including officer training, pet registration, nuisance management, dog attacks, restricted dog breeds, education, and animal businesses.
A key focus of the Draft Plan is communication and education, promoting, supporting, and celebrating responsible pet ownership across the community.
Council is required to submit the endorsed Domestic Animal Management Plan 2025–29 to the Victorian Government (Animal Welfare Victoria) by 31 December 2025 to comply with the Domestic Animals Act 1994. The Draft Plan can be viewed in the documents list.
