Consultation has concluded
UPDATE JANUARY 2026 (SURVEY RESULTS)
Council undertook community engagement to gather feedback on potential locations for a new public toilet in the Nyora township centre, which will replace the existing facilities that have reached the end of their serviceable life. The engagement period ran from 15 September to 12 October 2025, with a total of 165 people providing feedback through the survey.
Most respondents (49%) indicated that their preferred location for the new toilet was Option B — on Crown land in the park, facing the playground.
Respondents who selected this option said they preferred it because it: • allows parents to more easily monitor children’s safety • is closer to existing facilities • offers greater visibility • is located away from nearby houses
Of the 60 respondents who selected “Other”, feedback was mixed. Twenty-five respondents said they would prefer the toilets to remain in their current location, 17 favoured a site near the bus stop, 14 supported the location proposed in Option C, and four suggested an entirely different site.
The Nyora toilet will be delivered later this financial year at Location B. You can download the full engagement report via the menu.
NYORA ENGAGEMENT
Council is replacing the public toilets in RSL park with new toilets. As part of the replacement, it is proposed that the facilities are relocated to a more accessible part of the park as the current location does not comply with Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design or Access and Mobility guidelines.
There are two proposed locations for the new facility (see image - click to enlarge). The benefits of the proposed locations are:
Increased accessibility - accessible parking and a connecting (shorter) path would be included as part of the new facility.
Improved passive surveillance
Closer to the bus stop
Greater opportunity to connect rail trail users to the town centre and better proximity to the rail trail car park. The new toilet structure would include a bike rack and drinking fountain.
Things to note:
Location A would face Mitchell Street
Location B would face the playground
Council's preferred option is A as this location is on the public road reserve which is managed by Council.
Location B is located on Crown Land (leased by Council from VicTrack). This does not prevent the use of the location, but Council's preference is to locate community asset on Council managed land.
The current location cannot be retained due to not meeting the guidelines listed above.
Feedback on the toilet location has now closed.
