FAQs
What is the Planning Scheme Review for?
Council, as the planning authority for the South Gippsland Planning Scheme, is required to review its planning scheme every four years under Section 12(B) of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 .
It is essentially a health check of the Scheme to make sure it is consistent with the form and content required by the Minister for Planning, has no minor errors and includes policy that is consistent with current State and Council policies.
Council last undertook a comprehensive review of the planning scheme in 2018.
How is the Planning Scheme Review report used to make improvements?
The Planning Scheme Review identifies issues that require more research and consideration that may be chosen as a future Council project or is something Council would advocate to the State Government to consider changing.
It also identifies administrative errors that can slow assessment of planning permits or create confusion in decision making process, such as Council’s approvals, VCAT review or Planning Panels Victoria Review.
What can the Planning Scheme Review change?
The Planning Scheme Review recommends changes to local policies, zone or overlay schedules and other miscellaneous local provisions in the South Gippsland Planning Scheme.
It also makes recommendations for process improvements, further strategic projects to be completed over the next four years and Council advocacy items.
