Help us consider the future of Coal Creek Community Park and Museum.

Coal Creek was opened in March 1974 as a site where the community could preserve their mining history and provide a cultural experience for visitors to the region. The project was a collaboration between local and state governments, the landowner (now known as DEECA), and the Korumburra community.

For the past decade, questions have been raised about Coal Creek that have remained largely unanswered. This consultation is an open and honest conversation with our community on how you want Coal Creek to progress into the future.

What Are We Seeking Feedback On?

During this engagement, we want to hear the thoughts and opinions of our community, as well as those who love to visit us. It is only with the feedback of our community that we can make a decision that reflects the diverse opinions present in South Gippsland.

As a starting point, we have created a Discussion Paper, that highlights the current state, challenges, opportunities and three options that may be considered. Please read the Discussion Paper before providing your feedback.

What Options are in the Discussion Paper?

  • Option 1: Revitalisation - continue current operations with additional activities and attractions to increase appeal.
  • Option 2: New Direction - a substantial shift based on recommendations from the engagement process.
  • Option 3: Ceasing Current Operations - involves deaccessioning collections, dismantling buildings and extensive community consultation.

Who Do We Want to Hear From?

Anyone living in or with a connection to South Gippsland. We also encourage hearing feedback from visitors to our region, and those who have visited the Park whether recently or a long time ago.
